Management of Lake Victoria

Lake Victoria is a transboundary resource serving a number of countries including Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. Being a source of River nile, it further supports the economies and Livelihoods of  Ethiopia, South Sudan, Sudan and Egypt. A number of people are employed by Lake victoria, However the lake is facing challenges of rising water levels, detoriating fish catch and increased polution from industries, untreated wastes, agriculture and ilegal settlements.

Being a transboundary resource, there is need for joint management of the lake, involvement and empowering of the local community and media to protect the lake. Strict enforment of the laws and improved monitoring system incluiding well equiped, trained, incorruptible and well facilitated lake protection agency.
